Textile machinery refers to the various types of equipment required to process natural or chemical fibers into textile products. Although machinery used in the production of chemical fibers encompasses a range of specialized chemical engineering equipment, it is now regarded as an extension of textile machinery, falling under the broader category of textile machinery. The processes involved in transforming different fibers—such as cotton, linen, silk, and wool—into finished textiles vary significantly, with some processes being entirely distinct. Consequently, the corresponding machinery needed is highly diverse and extensive in variety. Textile machinery is typically classified according to the specific stages of production, including: spinning equipment, weaving equipment, printing and dyeing equipment, finishing equipment, chemical fiber drawing equipment, reeling equipment for silk production, and nonwoven fabric manufacturing equipment. Spinning equipment itself is further divided into two main categories: machinery designed for processing short fibers and machinery tailored for long fibers. Cotton and cotton-based synthetic fibers fall under the category of short fibers, while wool, linen, silk, and their blended synthetic counterparts belong to the category of long fibers. Due to the differing processing methods required for these two fiber types, the associated machinery cannot be universally interchangeable—though certain machines may share similar design principles. Even within the same category of equipment, although machine structures often resemble one another, variations in raw material properties and end-product specifications generally prevent interchangeability.
Textile machinery serves as the production means and material foundation of the textile industry. Its technological level, quality, and manufacturing costs are all directly linked to the development of the textile industry.
